Before The Fall

Today I am going to step away from weddings again and brag about my little cousin (Misty Silva). This morning Misty sent me a fabulous review about the latest record review. Living so far away from my family I do not keep up on all of the happenings. Seeing this review was very cool and made me very proud (I know how sappy that sounded). Anyway, check out the blurb below raving about "Before The Fall"
- "Before The Fall have been hailed as one of the premier Boston bands to see live. Their buzz-saw guitar sound rips through heavy drum beats with lead singer Misty Silva’s singing pulling it all together." - JP's Music Blog

Yvonne & Yemi at Martin's West

On April 4th I was blessed by being able to be part of Yvonne and Yemi's wedding day. Yvonne was looking for a spring feel with shades of white and ivory touched with brown accents. Her photographer (Perskie www.perskie.com) was kind enough to share a few of their professional pics.

Yvonne's bouquet consisted of a spring medley of snapdragons, lilacs, peonies, tulips, roses and ranunculous is shades of white and cream accented with whimsical fiddle head ferns finished with ivory satin wrapped stems and a dramatic double streamer.
For the reception at Martin's West the bride wanted a high end look on an affordable budget, so we got creative and used over sized trumpet vases filled with dramatic curly willow accented with simple cream tulips and hanging candles. The look was remarkable!

You can check out more of Perskie's work at www.perskie.com

Simple Calla in Pink

Check out this simple display of glass, stones branches and stunning submerged pink callas. This is a great piece for cocktail tables or even your bar area.

This fun piece was inspired by a fabulous couple planning a low key and down to earth autumn affair at the Historic Gov. Calvert House in Annapolis' Historic District.

Magnificence at MartinsValley Mansion

In late March we had the privilege of working on Crystal and Quinton's wedding day flowers and decor. Crystal was by far the most appreciative bride I have ever worked with.

Their wedding of black, white and gold was magnificent against the existing decor at Martins Valley Mansion This couple was truly budget savvy when it came to decor and let me suggest items and even take creative control in the design process to maximize their budget.

Crystal & Quinton - Thank you for allowing me to be part of your day. If your friends are anything like you I look forward to doing all of thier weddings as well.

Lilly's Story

The Lily is the most popular wedding flower. Recently the Calla Lily has gained more popularity than the traditional Star Gazer or the Casablanca Lily. However, it is still the flower of choice for many brides. I never gave the Lily much thought, however, in February one of my closest friends named her little girl Lilliana Grace. Now each time I meet with a bride and discuss this classic flower the image of little "Lilly" is on my mind.

Today I wanted to share a recent photo of Lilly so that all of you can see the image that comes to me when discussing lilies. She is quite inspiring!

Thank you to Nick & Stacy for sharing this fun photo!

Dressing your Cylinder

(Credit: flickr.com)
Cylinder vases are hotter than ever with the 2009 & 2010 brides. Dressing your cylinder can give it a custom look. Of course to have your designer dress each vase is going to be pricey, however, we offer our clients the opportunity to pick-up their rental vases several days in advance and dress them on their own. This gives the bride the opportunity to achieve that custom look while keeping her budget in check. (We are offering this on a trial basis)

Submerged Flowers

This has been the year of submerged flowers. It seems that over the last couple months almost every bride that has walked through our studio doors has inquired about submerged centerpieces. This was a hot trend in 2008 that continues to go strong in 2009.

Exquisite Gems at The Cloisters Castle

This weekend Robyn of Exquisite Gems Events www.exquisitegemsevents.com
asked us to create two mock-up centerpieces for her client at the Cloisters Castle. The flowers had a great springy feel and really came to life when Robyn and her team added a few of their finishing touches. Robyn was kind enough to share her photos with us. ENJOY!

This next image does not reflect flowers, but, I wanted to share the buety of the Cloister's front entry with all of our blog readers. This is a great venue with lots of fun photo opps!www.cloisterscastle.com
Fuchsia & Black make a dramatic statement when paired with the ballroom's crystal chandelier. The designer was wise to set this arrangement on a standard black linen as the contrast creates a fabulous "WOW" factor.

Lounges and The Economy

Brides and their families have been mindful of the economy when planning their weddings. Couples want to make sure their wedding day is an escape for their guests. They want their guests to be able to step away from life responsibilities and enjoy an evening of relaxation, fun and friendship. This desire has given way to creative event styles such as relaxing lounge spaces. Using a variety of furniture pieces and decor elements custom lounges spaces are being brought in as a compliment to any color pallet or event theme. These lounge spaces give guests a way to sit back and enjoy the event in classic comfort.

Tempting Tent Treatments

When planning an outdoor affair the standard White tent seems to be a must have. For the bride that wants to add a little life to the drab tent interior there are a number of fabulous fabric options. Take a look at these great examples of simple fabric that gives the awkward tent poles couture appeal.

Amazing Chuppa

The Chuppa is one of our favorite ceremony presentations. I found this Chuppa today while viewing "real weddings" on brides.com. The Chuppa stretched all the way the the ceiling nearly 20 feet high. The Chuppa is accented with the warm glow of professional event lighting. Stunning...
.

I would love to re-create this look here in Maryland.

Classic Calla

The Calla Lily is a classic wedding flower. The simple flower comes in lots of colors and has clean lines that is ideal for a classic look. The image above (courtesy of theknot.com) is a great example of callas being used for a black & White wedding.

Modern Meets Green

Green and White are the colors of the year and these modern pieces are a great example of the direction that centerpieces are taking. The focus this spring seems to be on well designed small accent pieces instead of over the top showpieces.

Orchid Fantasy

Credit: Grace Ormonde

Orchids have become the "must have" wedding flower for the 2009 & 2010. I thought you would all enjoy a look into this luxurious wedding overflowing with some of the most expensive orchids available.

For the bride that LOVES the look, but, not the price tag there are a number of ways to use this look as inspiration to create a more cost affective look.

Aisle Art

From the creative minds of today's bride comes lots of new ways to put a twist on a traditional wedding item such as the Rose Petal. I love how these petals have been displayed as hearts leading to the alter. This could easily be done in virtually any pattern to compliment your wedding.

Opening Day

We have decided to start this blog to help provide ideas and inspiration for weddings and events.

ENJOY!
